Least developed country members of the WTO are currently exempted till 1 July 2021 from implementing obligations to protect intellectual property rights under the WTO TRIPS Agreement. The LDC members have recently submitted a request for extension of this period until their graduation and thereafter for a period of 12 years. This webinar will discuss why the request by the LDC members is just and legitimate, and is permissible under WTO rules.

For a background analysis of the issue, see South Centre Policy Brief 88 by Mr. Nirmalya Syam – “Need for Extension of the LDC Transition Period Under Article 66.1 of the TRIPS Agreement Until Graduation and Beyond”
