Our team is composed of experts on intellectual property rights (IPRs) and public health. We collaborate with government and academic institutions in developing countries, including local experts. The operative team includes:

Dr. Carlos M. Correa
Executive Director of the South Centre

Dr. Correa is a renowned expert in the field of IPRs and public health, advising governments and international agencies. Professor Correa is both a lawyer and economist from the University of Buenos Aires and holds a PhD in Law from the University of Buenos Aires.
Dr. Germán Velásquez
Special Health and Policy Advisor to the Executive Director of the South Centre

Dr. Velásquez is previously Director of the Secretariat on Public Health, Innovation and Intellectual Property at the World Health Organization until 2010. Dr. Velásquez has a Master’s in Economics and a PhD in Health Economics from the Sorbonne University, Paris.
Dr. Viviana Muñoz-Tellez

Dr. Muñoz-Tellez is a muti-disciplinary policy expert in the area of public health and intellectual property and innovation. She holds a Masters in Development Management from the London School of Economics and a PhD in management of technology from EPFL, Lausanne.
Mr. Nirmalya Syam

Mr. Syam has more than 10 years’ experience on issues related to IPRs and access to medicines. He holds a bachelor's degree in law (LL.B) from the University of Calcutta and a master's degree (M.Phil.) in international law from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
Dr. Vitor Henrique Pinto Ido

Dr. Ido is a trained lawyer and anthropologist who worked in both the private and public sectors prior to joining the South Centre. He holds a LLB, Masters and a PhD in Law and a BA in Social Sciences from the University of São Paulo, Brazil.
